This project collects, organizes and analyzes data from the California Department of Cannabis Control’s License Search website to inform researchers, policymakers, and the public about the uneven development of cannabis legalization in the state. Where are the cultivation counties? Which jurisdictions have diverse industry ownership, and which ones have concentrated ownership? How is retail density different in cities and counties?
Answers to these questions help us ask better questions about economic justice and diversity in California’s landscape of legalization.
